Abstract

The object of the sociological research is Belarusian mass media. The subject of the investigation is two mass media differing in their form of ownership and technological parameters, which cover events in the country and in the world most fully. These mass media are the private Internet portal Onliner.by and the state TV channel «Столичное телевидение». The goal of the research is to reveal the thematic dominants in these Belarusian mass media. The method applied in the study is the content analysis of the headlines of the journalists` texts. This analysis was carried out during monitoring over four weeks from October 2020 to February 2021. It was found that the thematic dominants in the studied media were the themes of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and the political events related to the presidential elections in the Republic of Belarus. The journalists' assessments of the events presented within the framework of these themes ranged from negative to neutral.
