CD4+ T cell mediated chronic intestinal disease: immune regulation versus inflammation

Abstract
The etiology of inflammatory bowel disease is still not definitely clarified. Inflammatory bowel disease could be the consequence of a dysregulated immune response in the mucosa. The immunological and molecular mechanisms underlying such disease were analyzed using a transgenic mouse expressing hemagglutinin in the enterocytes if the intestinal epithelium. Concomitant expression of hemagglutinin and a MHC class-II restricted T cell receptor specific for hemagglutinin resulted in an autoimmune mediated chronic inflammation.
