Floating macrophytes on the wastewater treatment: a state of the art review

Abstract
Wastewater treatments involving floating macrophytes have proven efficient in the remediation of water containing nutrients, organic matter and toxic substances such as arsenic, zinc, cadmium, copper, lead, chromium, and mercury. Its importance lies in its ability to be used in rural areas due to its low conventional energy consumption and the practicality in the assembly and operation of treatment systems. Even so, the processes that take place in the purification of sewage with floating macrophytes have not yet been clarified.
