Abstract
Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state joining process that is able to solve or avoid most of the typical welding issues, especially when joining aluminum alloys. By FSW, all aluminum alloys can be joined reliably, efficiently and with a very high joint efficiency. Even without post-treatment, friction stir welded joints reach very high static and cyclic strength properties that are usually significantly higher than those of fusion welds.
