Abstract
INTRODUCTION. Periprosthetic bone mineral density (PBMD) is affected after Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) implantation, can produce periprosthetic fractures and, in the long term, aseptic failure. If the bone fixation is poor, bone atrophy and stress shielding con lead to osteolysis and prosthetic failure. Several strategies have been done to improve the PBMD after total knee implantation. Oral bisphosphonate that inhibit bone resorption are ideal candidates to treat this bone loss. In our study we used Denosumab, a human monoclonal antibody for RANKL in the treatment of osteoporosis.
