In hallux valgus (HV), toe pronation is difficult to study and quantify. Aims: to evaluate big toe pronation in patients with HV. Material and methods: prospective study of 132 patients with HV on the waiting list for surgical treatment and 30 patients without hallux valgus in the control group. This study describes a method of detecting proximal phalanx pronation on calibraton system of 6 proximal phalanges at 0º, 10º, 30º, 40º, 50º and 60º pronation. Patients were standing barefoot on a rigid platform to obtain the nail-floor angle formed by the secant line of toenail border and a line formed by the platform edge.
