Abstract
With the aim of determining the status of HPV infection among unvaccinated women against the virus in Extremadura, 355.938 smears were studied, under an opportunistic screening plan, between 2002 and 2013. The total analyzed cytology corresponds to 173,841 women, including a sample without cytological lesions and no gynecological history of 593 women. The cytological diagnoses were classified attending the consensus of Bethesda (1), with the following results: negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy 93.3%; ASC-US, 1%; ASC-H, 0.1%; L-SIL, 1.6%; H-SIL, 0.3%.
