<jats:title>ABSTRACT</jats:title> <jats:p>Two linked mutations affecting glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) formation (<jats:italic>gdh-1</jats:italic> and <jats:italic>rev-2</jats:italic>) had been isolated at a locus near the <jats:italic>trp</jats:italic> cluster in <jats:italic>Klebsiella aerogenes</jats:italic>. The properties of these two mutations were consistent with those of a locus containing either a regulatory gene or a structural gene. The <jats:italic>gdhA</jats:italic> gene from <jats:italic>K. aerogenes</jats:italic> was cloned and sequenced, and an insertion mutation was generated and shown to be linked to <jats:italic>trp</jats:italic>.
