Economic analysis of intermodal transport applications in the region of lake Van

Abstract

Domestic freight transport is carried out within the borders of Turkey, it is mainly highway. The use of other types of transportation is rather low compared to highways. To a large extent, highway use creates high costs and fuel consumption. Intermodal transportation should be used and encouraged to minimize these negative effects. In this study, within the scope of intermodal transportation carried out in Van Lake region, the inland waterway, seaway and railway transportation modes are examined and the transportation time, fuel consumption variables and highway transportation mode are compared. The economic analysis of this comparison is aimed. For this purpose, it is planned to transport a certain amount of cargo to Kapıköy, which is the Iranian border gate of Van province, by using different modes of transport from Istanbul. In this direction, it is aimed to investigate the economic impact of the train ferry line operating in Van Lake on this comparison. In this study, a model was created over general transportation costs, assuming that decision makers would choose the solution that would minimize the total transportation cost. This model is adapted for intermodal transportation. In addition, in the model assumes that the loaders (decision makers) want to minimize the total transportation costs, therefore the solution that gives the lowest total cost is chosen. A formula was created and used for unit cost and total transportation cost per ton or vehicle. Van Lake and the surrounding transportation network performed intermodal transport Turkey and many countries were identified as having an impressive economic advantage. Intermodal transportation in Van Lake and its surroundings, transport network in Turkey and many countries were identified as having an impressive economic advantage. In addition to this positive effect created by the use of intermodal transportation, it has been observed that there has been a certain increase in transportation times. Which is currently being performed in Turkey and the transportation investments and projects to be made are vital to realizing in a short time. In this case, Turkey's geo-economic, geopolitical and it is expected to reach a stronger position from a geostrategic point of view.
