Status, rasprostranjenje i godišnja dinamika podvrsta močvarne strnadice (Emberiza schoeniclus, Linneaus, 1758) u Hrvatskoj

Abstract

Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) is resident bird, regular passage migrant and winter visitor in Croatia. A lot of subspecies from Europe come in this region during migrations. Purpose of this work was to define which subspecies, and in what time of year, reside in Croatia, and also if they have morphological differences and what are their routes in the time of migration. Biometric research has been conducted at fish ponds Draganići, Vransko lake and delta of Neretva river, and three subspecies were recorded: E. s. schoeniclus, E. s. stresemanni i E. s. intermedia. All three subspecies showed gender dimorphism. Males were bigger than females, at least in two measured parameters. E. s. intermedia is resident subspecies in coastal Croatia and is not migrating. Subspecies E. s. stresemanni is both residental and winter visitor from northern areas. E. s. schoeniclus migrates in Croatia and stays from September to April or just passes our country on migrations. In wintertime, on all three sites most numerous subspecies was E. s. schoeniclus. In Draganići fish ponds females were outnumbered by males, who winter in northern parts of country so they can quickly return to nesting sites. Birds that winter or pass Croatia in migrations fly from northern, northeastern and middle Europe.
