Abstract
Jómsvíkinga saga is amongst the oldest Icelandic sagas. It was most likely written in the first half of the 13th century but has been preserved in four different versions from the Middle Ages in four vellum manuscripts. Two aspects of the saga have been the main focus of scholars hitherto. On the one hand the saga's origins and on the other hand the question of genre. Characteristics from different genres like kings' sagas, family sagas and legendary sagas can be found in Jómsvíkinga.
