Obesity is a multifactorial chronic disease, the result of the interaction between genotype and environment. In developed countries like ours, it affects a large percentage of the population, in all ages, social conditions and in both sexes. Its prevalence has increased and continues to increase alarmingly in our society, as well as countries with economies in transition, to epidemic proportions.
