Abstract
Hamileliğe bağlı olarak annede görülen bazı immünolojik değişiklikler enfeksiyonlara yatkınlığı artırmaktadır. Periodontal hastalık, başlıca sebebi mikrobiyal dental plak olan, multifaktöriyel ve çeşitli şiddetlerde görülen yaygın bir hastalıktır. Periodontal hastalığın klinik olarak birçok tanı kriteri bulunmaktadır. Hamilelik ve periodontal enflamasyon arasındaki ilişki uzun yıllardır bilinmektedir. Periodontal hastalık, hamilelerde sistemik durumu etkilemektedir ve fetusa da olumsuz etkileri bulunmaktadır. Periodontal hastalık, erken doğum ve düşük doğum ağırlığı riskini artırmaktadır.
