Hemotherapy agencies in compliance with hemotherapy legislation

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the situation of hemotherapy agencies of the State of Pará, Brazil and its relation to hemotherapy legislation. The data were collected from questionnaires applied to medical, biomedical and biochemical professionals, working at six agencies of the State’s Hemotherapy Network between August and September 2014. The results showed one of the following non-compliance evidences: absence of documentary formalizing relations with the supplier of blood products; non-availability of professionals (doctor and biochemist) for the daily supervision of the agency’s routines; professionals’ involvement, on the same workday, with clinical laboratory and agency’s demands. Equipment management, hemotherapy vigilance and waste disposal did not comply with a percentage of the requirements. Infrastructure was satisfactory. Educational and socialization activities related to hemotherapy legislation should be pursued. Hemotherapy vigilance should move forward with the formation of Blood Transfusion Committees and the report of adverse reactions. A public intervention plan reorienting waste disposal by hemotherapy services is required.
