Abstract

The article describes the content and the structure of linguistic concept «Epistemic Evaluation» from cognitive-functional approach. Epistemic modality is seen as the means of representation of the concept. An attempt is made to prove that components of the concept are represented as Gestalt in the English language world view. Examples from The Corpus of Contemporary American English illustrate that one and the same Gestalt-function may be verbalized through different Gestalt-structures in accordance with the speaker’s communicative intention. A typical epistemic evaluative situation is characterized as a frame.
