Abstract

The urgency of the issue is related to the need to distinguish between similar phenomena of syntactic level elliptical and zero ones. The research objective is to clarify the concepts of ellipsis and syntactic zero, determine their criteria and describe basic models of elliptical constructions. Was also justified the need to distinguish elliptical and zero components in a simple sentence and identify their common features. Was provided an arrangement of different points of view on the issue of ellipsis and syntactic zero qualification, presented the criteria of these phenomena, analyzed examples demonstrating them based on constructions taken from the novel “Quiet Flows the Don” by M. Sholokhov, as well as were established basic models of elliptical constructions in a simple sentence.
