Abstract

The article considers the basic stages of data collection and the first attempts of scientific studying of epic folklore of the Mari people. The considered periods are 18 century and the beginning of 20 century. At this time the first samples of epic texts of folklore of Maris have been identified and collected, the names of national heroes, mentioned earlier only in folk literature are fixed.

Рассматриваются основные этапы сбора эпического фольклора марийского народа и первых попыток научного его изучения. В период XVIII – нач. XX в. были выявлены и собраны первые образцы эпических текстов устного творчества, зафиксированы имена народных героев, упоминавшиеся ранее лишь в народной словесности.
