The aim of the article is to describe how the need for training of professional sociologists appeared in the South of Russia, what prerequisites for it were that time and what theoretical and practical experience of sociological research was accumulated. All this resulted in the formation of the Department of Sociology and Political Science in RSU and the development of other institutions that have contributed to the formation of sociology in the South of Russia.

Статья показывает, как на Юге России сложилась потребность в подготовке профессиональных социологов, какие к этому сложились предпосылки и какой был наработан теоретический и практический опыт социологических исследований, что выразилось в образовании в РГУ факультета социологии и политологии и развитии других институций, которые способствовали становлению социологии.
