Abstract

Evaluative words used in literary texts express the author's emotions and personal attitude towards the events described. Evaluative adjectives create special expressiveness of the sentence and deliver additional information about the facts of objective reality, conveying the author's perception. While de scribing features of characters, their behavior, feelings and emotions evaluative adjectives often express subjective author's opinion, which results in posing certain difficulties for the process of translation. In these connection English translations of evaluative adjectives with metaphorical or metonymical shifts in meaning arouse a special scientific interest.
