Abstract

The article considers two unusual syntactic phenomena of modern German. They are a non-verbal way to render somebody else’s utterance and the use of present instead of preterite in an adverbial clause of time introduced by the conjunction als. The first phenomenon reflects the tendency to economy while the second one reflects the tendency to accuracy.
