Abstract

This article focuses on the artistic representation of the image of the «New Woman» in the novels of German writers of the Weimar Republic. «New Woman» the phenomenon of German Culture in the 1920 is associated with the changing views on the situation of women in family and society. The idealized image of the «New Woman» is actively replicated in the mass culture, but in real life, the emancipation caused a mixed assessment. In these novels the «New Woman» appears not as ideal, but more like self-staging as a defense mechanism in response to the sociohistorical changes in German society during this period.
