Abstract

Cystoid macular edema is the most common cause for a persisting impairment of vision in patients suffering from uveitis. Scientific knowledge on the mechanisms underlying the development of macular edema has made a great leap forward in the last decade. Nevertheless, research is only at the edge of understanding the mechanisms on a molecular level, aiming to more specialized therapeutic strategies for the treatment of macular edema in the future.
