Abstract

The work on collecting of exhibits and documentary witnesses, the study of exhibits and preparations for exhibitions are discussed in the article. The scope of the research includes Kostroma and Yaroslavl regions. Moreover, some problems which influenced the museum work are observed in the article. Thus personnel affairs of the local museums had the greatest impact on the results of collecting work and working out the subject-exposure plans especially after the World war II. The lacks of free premices and suitable repositories made it impossible to widen museum collections with new exhibits. The careless registration of museum exhibits caused the necessity for researchers to establish order in funds first of all. The ideological component also influenced the museum work. The Soviet history dominated in museum work till the mid-1950s, whereas since the mid-1960s, the interest to pre-revolutionary period and Old Rus’ history increased.
