Abstract

The author defends the legality of the chapter “At Tikhon’s” elimination from the main text of Dostoyevsky’s novel “Demons”. Stavrogin’s confession is oriented on the “discourse of silence” of Pechorin’s confession. The article suggests the idea that Stavrogin cannot be attributed by the type of “superfluous men” in the literature of the XIX century. This image of a man with a decayed soul rejects repentance. The connotation of the chapter “At Tikhon’s” is in denial literary conventions by Dostoevsky.
