Abstract

Nowadays polyoxihydroxil sterols (the so-called ecdisteroids) extracted from different objects of animal and vegetable origin are of great interest. They are structurally identical to hormones of shedding and metamorphose of insects and possess marked pharmacologic action. However, in spite of their wide prevalence in animal and vegetable kingdom there are not so many sources to get ecdisteroids. Among such sources it is possible to mention Serrtulla coronata, Ajuga reptans and Rhaponticum carthamoides. The latter may be widely cultivated on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. Due to significant ecdisteroids concentration in all parts of this plant and leaves in particular, Rhaponticum carthamoides may be considered as a source of these expensive, pharmacologically active and promising compounds.
