Abstract

Unsymmetrically 1,1-bis substituted ferrocenes showing tetrahedratic SmCT* and NT* mesophases were investigated in an unaligned 10electrooptic cell. A non-typical electro-initiated reversible transformation of the SmCT mesophase into the conventional nematic mesophase has been observed, which is caused presumably by the destruction of the tetrahedratic molecular associates under influence of DC electric fields up to 30 kV/cm.
