Abstract

This article considers present-day state of the floodplain and changes occurred in hydrological regime of the river Pripyat. Decrease of the flood duration after ameliorative construction and enclosure of submerged lands with dams in the river Pripyat collecting area in 1980-2009 compared to 1945-1970 was determined. Maximal levels of the spring floods defined by empirical probability curves have lower values, than the values predicted by the earlier calculations, because these were made without taking controlling influence of soil aeration zone after drainage and reduction of subsoil water level into account. For the safe nature management of the nuclear polluted floodplain it is recommended to conduct a radiological monitoring.
