Abstract

My article deals with reconsideration of research legacy by one of the greatest Russian economists M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky, who had significant influence on the economic development in Russia and abroad. The special interest concerns Tugan-Baranovsky’s views on agricultural policy, which were reconsidered by Russian scholars in exile in 1920s-1930-s. By analyzing in detail MI Tugan-Baranovsky''s major works, on the one hand, and economical ideas of his supporters and opponents, on the other hand, I consider the struggle of several trends in the Russian economic thought in exile about the peasant question and cooperation in Soviet Russia. I show M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky’s research legacy, which was formed in the times of worldwide transformation of economic set-ups and ideological and political struggle, is an integral part of original Russian economic scholar in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I conclude bolshevist agrarian conception was challenged by original Russian economic theory created by Russian scholars in exile, whose founder was an outstanding Russian economist M.I. Tugan-Baranovsky.
