Abstract

On the basis of the main statements of the theory of activities in general psychology and the theory of speech and bilingual speech activity the conditions of fulfilling and functioning of the main psychological mechanisms (memory, attention, perception, probabilistic forecasting/ anticipation, thinking) ateach stage of consecutive interpretation process are considered in this article. The author’s original specification of consecutive interpreting is suggested. Specific features of consecutive interpretation making it different from the other kinds of interpretation activities, such assimultane ousandsight translation in particular, are described by the auther. Special attention is paid to the role of interpretation semantography (note-taking) being a specific component of consecutive interpretation. Analysis of the psychological content of the interpreter’s activity leads to description of the psychological model for consecutive interpretation. The conclusions relating to the process of professional training of future interpreters are made.
