Abstract
The composition of the essential oils isolated from the roots of Pinus halepensis, P. pinaster, and P. pinea grown in Algeria were investigated by GC and GC/MS. The oil of P. halepensis was found to be rich in monoterpenes hydrocarbons (93.2 %), with α-pinene (87.4 %) being the major component. The most abundant compounds in P. pinaster oil were α-pinene (22.0 %), β-pinene (27.1 %) and trans-p-caryophyllene (21.4 %), while the oil of P. pinea contained limonene (66.3%) as a major component.
