Abstract
There are many features of resemblance between simple herpes and herpes zoster, but there are also strong points of dissimilarity. In extreme cases of herpes, particularly about the face, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the zoster and simple forms. The clusters of firm vesicles on an erythematous base are identical in both. Histologically, the lesions in the skin and those in the affected nerve structures are practically the same in the two varieties. Thus far simple herpes might almost be regarded as a circumscribed abortive zoster; but there are other differentiating clinical features.
