Abstract

In this thesis, Socrates is examined through the prism of drama and philosophy. Socrates constitutes the ideal case of thinker whose lack of written word and crucial influence upon many writers and schools of thought, places him in a limitless research field that cannot be determined from only one science. Drama and philosophy as conflicting sides of human expression during ancient times can find common ground in the case of Socrates and reintroduce their ability for collaboration between them. Dramatic Socrates can operate artistically today though having its starting point in the ancient philosophical teaching. Modern scholars observe his timelessness regarding philosophy and put his famous words “γνῶθι σαὐτόν” back in the foreground of the research activity.
