Abstract
Purpose: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is the main cause of vision loss and blindness in children, and is replicated and intensively studied in rodent models of oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR). One signature feature of ROP is retinal neovascularization, which is also present in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Inflammation is another feature in ROP and PDR. In both diseases, the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is dysregulated, and blockade of RAS via angiotensin II (Ang II) type-1 receptor (AT1R) blockers (ARB) and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors have shown successful reduction of the incidence and progression of retinopa...
