Herpesvirus canino 1: agente etiológico y enfermedad

Canine herpesvirus is an alphaherpesvirus of dogs and there is only one serotype. The virus has been isolated in numerous countries and recent studies in Europe suggest it to be enzootic in the dog population. It is an etiological agent involved in vesicular genital lesions and reproductive disorders such as embryonic resorption, abortion and perinatal mortality. The virus is furthermore associated with respiratory disease (kennel cough syndrome). Epidemiologically, the virus behaves as a typical herpesvirus whereby clinically recovered dogs become latently infected carriers which undergo periodic episodes of virus reactivation, particularly after a stress.
