Digital inkjet textile printing is an emerging technology developed with the rise of the digital world. It offers a possibility to print high-resolution images with unlimited color selection on fabrics. Digital inkjet printing brings a revolutionary chance for the textile printing industry. The history of textile printing shows the law how new technology replaces the traditional way of printing. This indicates the future of digital inkjet textile printing is relatively positive. Different from conventional screen printing, digital inkjet textile printing has its digitized printing process which provides a more efficient sampling process. Though digital inkjet textile printing shows an obvious advantage to the textile industry, obstacles, due to high requirement of operation, limit the wide application of new technology at present. The ergonomics and features of digital textile machines need to be developed further to keep this new technology in current demanding position in the textile industry. Through this thesis, a glance is taken at digital inkjet textile printing world. Not just knowledge but also understanding of this emerging technology in the textile printing industry is gained. Furthermore, digital inkjet textile printing offers a chance to meet changing market demand in textile printing industry by realizing mass customization and Just-in-time. This thesis opens a view for those who seek opportunities in the apparel industry.
