Abstract
Reduction of the weight of the propulsion system is important in the design of a stratospheric airship. However, it also important to increaseefficiency of the system because available energy generated by solar cells on the hull is quite limited. One solution to increase efficiency of the propulsion system is to use a stern propeller, the propeller mounted on the stern of the hull as shown in Figure 1. Mounted on the stern of the hull, the stern propeller is merged with the boundary layer of the hull. Hence the stern propeller increases efficiency from the effect caused by the low velocity of the boundary layer. As a result the stern propeller is about 1.2 times...
