GEOPOLITICAL INTERESTS: ON THE HISTORY OF 1939

GEOPOLITICAL INTERESTS: ON THE HISTORY OF 1939

Abstract

The article provides an overview of the hostilities occurred in the Far East in 1939, caused by the aggressive actions of imperialistic Japan. The described events reflect the geopolitical interests of the involved countries: Japan sought to expand its territory by appropriating lands of Manchuria, China, Mongolia and Russia. Our country was interested in prevention of the threat of annexation of Soviet lands, according to the plans of Japan, as well as protection of Mongolia bordering us, which borders «should be protected as our own». Geopolitical interests affect relations between countries, cul¬tural contacts, pursuing cultural policy, formation of the image of the Other, therefore, studying the special features of cultural dialogue between coun¬tries, one shouldn’t lose sight of this aspect of the question.
