The paper contains some observations concerning the implementation of the principle of compositionality and the principle of context in the language of logic exposed in the Frege's opus magnum, The Basic Laws of Arithmetic. The work is based on the partial formal reconstruction of the language which had been con-structed in the mentioned volume. The principal conclusion is that Frege is not committed, in the framework of this treatise, exclusively to one of the two principles. Rather, some of the means he uses might be de-scribed as compositional, while some other as contextual, in different respects and on different steps of con-structing the names of his conceptual notation.
