Features of adaptation of foreign students to studying at university on speciality “medicine”

Abstract

Actuality. The development of higher medical education in modern conditions is accompanied by an increase in information load on students, which causes some difficulties for students to adapt in the first years of study, in particular among foreign citizens.Aim of work – to study the features of individual indicators of adaptation of foreign second-year students of medical faculty №3 to studying at the HSEE of Ukraine “Bukovinian State Medical University”.Material and methods. During the research, 75 foreign students (30 boys and 45 girls) aged 19.25 ± 0.183 were interviewed. The interrogation was conducted by means of a questionnaire in English, with the definition of such indicators of social and psychological adaptation as neuro-psychic speed, communicative potential, level of social development, deviant behavior and personal adaptive potential.Results. The study of the adaptations level of foreign students of the 2 year of study showed that most respondents have a relatively low or insufficient level of resistance to mental and physical stress, a relatively low level of communication and socialization, but not prone to the deviant behavior. In general, the level of socio-psychological adaptation of foreign second-year students is quite low, which requires correction and more attention from teachers and mentors.Conclusion. In the higher medical institutions should be taken into account the peculiarities of adaptation of foreign students to the new living conditions of existence and study.
