
Based on the data of the general population censuses of 1897 and 1926, the article focuses on the place of the residents of regional capitals (Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Chita, Verkhneudinsk and Yakutsk) in the structure of the population of Eastern Siberia. The authors analyze the dynamics of growth of the total urban population of Eastern Siberia, changes in its gender composition, the ratio of the urban and rural population of the region, and also compare the rates of development of the regional centers of Eastern Siberia with each other.
