La Amenaza Invisible detrás de las Pantallas: El Síndrome Visual Informático en Escolares Peruanos

Abstract

La pandemia del COVID-19 ha generado un aumento generalizado en el uso de dispositivos digitales en todas las edades, convirtiéndolos en elementos indispensables en la vida diaria. Sin embargo, existe una creciente preocupación sobre el impacto negativo en la salud visual, especialmente el Síndrome Visual Informático (SVI), causado por el excesivo uso de computadoras, teléfonos inteligentes y otros dispositivos electrónicos. Este síndrome se manifiesta con síntomas como sequedad ocular, visión borrosa y malestares físicos, y ha emergido como un problema de salud pública, especialmente entre niños y adolescentes, quienes pasan largos periodos frente a pantallas digitales. Estudios han demostrado un incremento en los síntomas del SVI con el excesivo uso de dispositivos, destacando la necesidad de realizar diagnósticos detallados para comprender su impacto. En Perú, se ha observado una alta prevalencia de SVI en estudiantes con síntomas como fotofobia y malestares oculares, atribuidos al extenso uso de dispositivos digitales. Aunque se han realizado investigaciones en poblaciones universitarias, se requiere más estudios en grupos escolares para identificar factores y concientizar sobre la importancia de limitar el uso excesivo de dispositivos electrónicos en niños y adolescentes, con el fin de mejorar su desempeño académico y proteger su salud visual.
