The uncertainty and volatility of the digital age turn people to their immediate environment. From this point of view, hyperlocal media are of practical interest. An important dialogue with the local community can take place on social media. Interactive tools, contributions from freelance authors and audiovisual content contribute to maintaining effective contact. The study raises the question of the interactive potential of hyperlocal media in Russia’s nuclear cities, as the territories where nuclear power plants are located demonstrate a faster pace of digitalisation. The results of qualitative content analysis and live monitoring allow us to assert that such resources apply certain web tools. Additionally, it is revealed that the introduction of interactive practices increases the virality of media products. It is suggested that nuclear cities as territories of sustainable development are interested in networking platforms where members of the local community exchange opinions and put forward useful initiatives, and thus can jointly develop additional measures to support them.
