Abstract

Desde os seus primeiros intérpretes, o texto de Apocalipse tem sido alvo de inúmeras controvérsias, muitas delas surgidas por uma má compreensão dos seus aspectos linguísticos, de sua estrutura literária e da composição retórica do livro. É precisamente o que ocorre com um dos textos mais emblemáticos deste corpus, o extrato narrativo em Ap 21,1-8. A estrutura deste texto, como a pesquisa demonstrará, emerge de sobreposições e paralelismos concêntricos, que colocam em relevo o poder imperialista e a Nova Criação da imagética tipicamente apocalíptica de Ap 21,1-8. Durante muito tempo a metodologia usual para a interpretação das estruturas do Apocalipse foram os manuais de retórica greco-romanos, que logo se demonstraram insuficientes para a análise de textos tão caracteristicamente judaicos como o Apocalipse de João. A falta de um método próprio para análise de textos do mundo semítico, que pudesse dar conta de estruturas retóricas como as do Apocalipse, certamente dificultou ainda mais os pesquisadores. Com o objetivo de fornecer um subsídio teórico para a análise literária e retórica do texto de Ap 21,1-8, então, a presente pesquisa irá fazer uso do método de Análise Retórica Bíblica Semítica, perscrutando fatores semânticos, redacionais e composicionais de Ap 21,1-8.
