¿Hachas del Bronce final como instrumentos de trabajo en minas prehistóricas?

Abstract

Desde mediados del siglo XIX se viene anotando la relación de hachas del Bronce final con explotaciones mineras. Siempre inexplicadas tales relaciones, perduran en la bibliografía arqueológica. La atención a varios casos notables del NO ibérico, –desperdigados por instituciones como el British Museum o el Ashmolean–, procedentes de comarcas con una intensa actividad minera en diferentes etapas históricas, descubre la confusión entre la minería contemporánea y los hallazgos arqueológicos provocados por la misma. Sin embargo, de la revisión de los distintos testimonios se concluye que las hachas «en minas» son vestigios de la habitual práctica prehistórica de la ocultación intencionada de objetos metálicos. El que algunas de las piezas tengan altos contenidos de plomo, presentando además adornos interpretados como «signos» de razonable dimensión semiótica, dan lugar a consideraciones sobre la actividad de talleres metalúrgicos con una precisa localización geográfica y el posible significado y destino de sus manufacturas.
