FACTORES DE RIESGO ASOCIADOS AL INFARTO CEREBRAL ATEROTROMBÓTICO

Abstract

Las enfermedades cerebrovasculares (ECV) constituyen un problema de salud mundial, en los países desarrollados y en Cuba, se encuentran dentro de las tres primeras causas de muerte, con una incidencia de 150-200 por 100 000 habitantes, y cerca del 25 % de los enfermos fallece, fundamentalmente personas con edades de más de 65 años. Ellas ocupan el primer lugar por su frecuencia entre todas las perturbaciones neurológicas; es, además, la enfermedad neurológica de mayor prevalencia de la población adulta mayor de 65 años, y constituye una de las principales causas de invalidez funcional, lo que determina una gran carga social y un elevado costo económico. En nuestro país, en el Anuario Estadístico de 2005, se informaron 8 787 defunciones por enfermedad cerebrovascular, con una tasa cruda de 78,1/100 000 habitantes, y ocurrieron en Villa Clara 591 defunciones, para una tasa cruda de 72,3/100 000 habitantes1,2.
