Abstract

El proceso constitucional de amparo iniciado por la Defensoría del Pueblo en favor de Ana Estrada, ha colocado la eutanasia en el centro del debate político y social de nuestro país. La eutanasia lejos de ser una práctica en favor de la persona y acorde a la defensa de su dignidad, propone una salida sencilla ante las situaciones de dolor. Pues tras la pantalla de la autodeterminación y el desarrollo absoluto de la libertad, se reconoce a un Estado que se presenta como fuente de salvación ante el sufrimiento, un sufrimiento no solo producto de una enfermedad terminal, sino de cualquier situación que implique para la persona la construcción de un acto voluntario y libre de poner fin a su propia vida. Se pierde de vista entonces, la importancia del acompañamiento familiar y profesional ante el dolor físico y emocional, así como la necesidad que el Estado desarrolle una serie de políticas públicas que permitan la implementación de los cuidados paliativos en nuestro país.
