Utilização de Processos de Automação na Biblioteca Nacional

Abstract

Abstract The National Library is facing presently the feasibility of developing automated procedures for its bibliographic services either as a partial or an overall system. Within the basic and additional functions of the national libraries, several alterna-tives are estimated as to the desired level of integration, attention being given not only to the actual organization but also to the future potentialities of the institution. The analysis of the five options brings into focus, in a synthetic and pre-liminary way, the problem of cost and some implications of adopting more or less complex equiprnent and of following a policy of cooperation with establishments akin to the Library.
