Prevalencia de la lepra en la provincia de Matanzas

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio del comportamiento de la lepra en la provincia de Matanzas, en el período comprendido entre 1992 y 1996. Se analizó la distribución de casos notificados por municipios en los diferentes años. Se demostró que la lepra no constituye un problema de salud en Matanzas; reportándose la tasa más elevada en 1992. Son los municipios de Matanzas y Cárdenas los que exhiben la mayor cantidad de casos, y existe en este último un incremento en 1996. Solamente en tres territorios no se han notificado enfermos de lepra en los 5 años estudiados. Se hace énfasis en la importancia de aplicar el programa de control de la lepra sobre todo en el nivel primario de atenciónA study on the behavior of leprosy in the province of Matanzas from 1992 to 1996 was conducted. The distribution of the cases notified by municipalities in different years was analyzed. It was proved that leprosy is not a health problem in Matanzas. The highestrate was reported in 1992. The municipalities of Matanzas and Cárdenas had the greatest number of cases, and in the latter it was observed an increase in 1996. Only there territories did not notify the existence of leprosy patients during the 5 years under study. Emphasis was made on the importance of putting into practice the leprosy control program above all at the primary health care level
