Abstract

Em medicina esportiva equina há constante preocupação com a queda de desempenho de animais atletas em decorrência de diversas disfunções orgânicas, como as de origem cardiovascular. As enfermidades cardiovasculares correspondem a terceira maior causa de queda de desempenho e são responsáveis por alterações que acarretam desde uma intolerância ao exercício até a morte súbita. O eletrocardiograma é o registro dos fenômenos elétricos que se originam durante a atividade cardíaca por meio do eletrocardiógrafo, sendo considerado uma ferramenta diagnóstica muito útil para investigação de processos cardíacos. A presente revisão aborda a utilização do eletrocardiograma, sua aplicabilidade e o diagnóstico das principais arritmias encontradas na espécie equina. O significado clínico preciso das alterações eletrocardiográficas durante e após o exercício ainda é desconhecido para essa espécie. Por essas razões, é importante definir as características eletrocardiográficas que se modificam com o treinamento, permitindo a diferenciação dos animais que podem apresentar miocardite ou outras alterações patológicas.
