Abstract
We report the first large-acceptance measurement of the beam–spin asymmetry for deuteron photodisintegration (<math><mover><mrow><mi>γ</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>→</mo></mrow></mover><mi>d</mi><mo>→</mo><mi>p</mi><mi>n</mi></math>) in the photon energy range <math><mn>420</mn><mo><</mo><msub><mrow><mi>E</mi></mrow><mrow><mi>γ</mi></mrow></msub><mo><</mo><mn>620</mn><mspace width="0.25em"></mspace><mtext>MeV</mtext></math>. The measurement provides important new constraints on the mechanisms of photodisintegration above the Δ resonance and on the photocoupling of the recently discovered <math><msup><mrow><mi>d</mi></mrow><mrow><mo>⁎</mo></mrow></msup><mo>(</mo><m...
